This book is a lovely surprise. Since the 1980s, Gowin has not published anything about V diagrams. For over 20 years my research group has found the V to be very empowering as a metacognitive tool. As such, I have tried to improve and apply it both in my teaching and research since 1984. Gowin and Alvarez  have stuck to the original version of the V that Gowin (1981) presented. For decades there has been relatively little writing and research on “V diagrams.” I have met many teachers and educational researchers who have never heard about V diagrams. That is why it is good to remind readers that “the V diagram was developed as a way to aid in the understanding of meaningful relationships among events, processes, or objects” (p. 35).
