The Measurement of Ability in Reading: Preliminary Scales and Tests: Introduction

It is the purpose of this number of the RECORD to report some of the results of work toward the construction of scales for the measurement of ability to read. The work is being continued and a much more satisfactory report will be made later; but the need for even rough means of measuring school achievement in reading is so pressing, and so many requests have come for information about these new scales, that I am giving now this preliminary account of the work, so far as it has gone.
