The author responds to Michelle Fine's article, "[Ap]parent Involvement: Reflections on Parents, Power, and Urban Public Schools," claiming that Fine’s focus on "empowerment," left another dimension of the parental involvement movement largely unexamined: the call for the increased supervision of homework, participation in extracurricular educational activities, and support for school disciplinary practice.
