She read to the class 24 statements from a chapter entitled "Utilization of Instruments and Measures" in the guise of a true-false test. At the insistence of the students, five possible responses were permitted, distributed as follows: 24 "T," 27 "?T," 12 "?," 20 "?F," and 61 "F." Over half the total of 144 responses were either "probably" false or false, and only a sixth were true, with another sixth "probably" true. For only two of the 24 sentences did as many as three of the six students mark "T." For 11 sentences, half or more of the students marked "F."
