ELIZABETH YEAGER WASHINGTON is Professor and Coordinator of Secondary Education and Social Studies Education at the University of Florida. She is former editor of Theory and Research in Social Education. Her research interests include civic education, the teaching and learning of history, and preservice social studies teacher education. Her edited books include Wise Social Studies Teaching in an Age of High-Stakes Testing: Essays on Classroom Practices and Possibilities (with O. L. Davis, Jr., 2005) and Historical Empathy and Perspective Taking in the Social Studies (with O. L. Davis, Jr. & S. J. Foster, 2001). In addition to 20 book chapters, her research has been published in such journals as Theory and Research in Social Education, Social Education, Social Studies Research and Practice, The Social Studies, Curriculum and Teaching Dialogue, Urban Education, Canadian Social Studies, and Journal of Teacher Education.
