Western Washington University E-mail Author BARBARA WAXMAN is an instructor in an innovative teacher certification program at Western Washington University dedicated to developing diverse and ELL-endorsed educators. She also conducts program evaluations for educational organizations, provides professional development and consults with schools and districts. She served as associate director of professional development for EL Education, a national school reform organization, and was a senior consultant for Paragon Educational Network, a non-profit education consulting organization she co-founded. She recently co-authored Why We Drop Out: Understanding and Disrupting Student Pathways to Leaving School and a chapter critiquing the Common Core State Standards from a critical literacy perspective (Au, W. & Waxman, B. (2015). She earned her doctorate in developmental psychology and education from the University of Rochester.
