The Relative Influence upon Educational Achievement of Some Hereditary and Environmental Factors

by J. D. Heilman - 1928

The specific purpose of this investigation was to determine, in so far as its nature and the development of statistical technique permitted, the relative influence upon scholastic achievement of mental age, school attendance, and socio-economic status of the home, with the hope of throwing some light upon the relative weight of inborn capacity and environmental influences in determining the large individual differences in acquired abilities. In this study aequired abilities are represented by scholastic attainment as determined by the Stanford Achievement Test, environmental influences by school attendance and socio-economic status, and inborn capacity by mental age as determined by the Stanford Revision of the Binet Scale.
