Emotional and Social Factors in Learning

It is generally recognized that learning is dependent upon both the characteristics of the learner and the external conditions to which he is reacting. Previous chapters have discussed some of the individual physiological and intellectual factors involved. In addition, personal factors such as instinct and emotion, as well as social factors such as group membership, rivalry, and cooperation, must be considered in relation to both the means and objectives of learning. The personal and social aspects of learning are intimately related and find a common meeting ground in the complex psychology of motivation.
