College Programs: The Prefreshman Program at Dillard University

The program to be described in the following pages is not the only one on the Dillard University campus. In the summer of 1965, there were three in operation: (a) a federally sponsored precollege program to which both local and imported instructors contributed, the whole planned by a national group; (b) an intensive effort, supported by the Sloan Foundation, to re-educate a small group of superior Negro boys who had been so uninspired by their local programs that they had fallen behind their peers; and (c) the Prefreshman program for high-school graduates who had been admitted to the Freshman class of 1965 at Dillard.
