    AMANDA HAERTLING THEIN is Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Language, Literacy and Culture Doctoral Program in the College of Education at the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on socio-cultural and socio-emotional aspects of literary response; critical approaches to multicultural literature instruction; and the intersection of Critical Youth Studies and young adult literature. Her research has been published in journals such as Research in the Teaching of English, Journal of Literacy Research, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, English Education, English Journal, and Language Arts. She is co-author of three books, including Teaching to Exceed the English Language Arts Common Core State Standards (Routledge, 2016).
