University of Illinois Springfield E-mail Author KAREN SWAN is Stukel Professor of Educational Leadership and a Research Associate in the Center for Online Learning, Research, and Service (COLRS) at the University of Illinois Springfield. Karen’s research has been in the general area of electronic media and learning. Her current interests center on online learning. Recent publications include articles and book chapters on data literacy, the pedagogy of MOOCs and online course design and a co-edited book called Leading the E-Learning Transformation of Distance Education. Karen was awarded the Sloan-C award for Most Outstanding Achievement in Online Learning by an Individual in 2006 and was inducted into the inaugural group of Sloan-C Fellows in 2010. She also received the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award from Teachers College, Columbia University and the 2014 Burks Oakley II Distinguished Online Teaching Award from the University of Illinois Springfield.
