His latest research projects examine teacher assignment practices, the impact of within school mobility on instructional growth, and hiring preferences. A former acrobat and chemistry teacher, he is currently a professor of educational leadership and policy analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

ART RAINWATER's career in education spans 49 years. Art retired from the Madison Metropolitan School District in 2008 after 14 years, serving the last 10 years as the district’s Superintendent of Schools. Art currently continues work in education serving as a Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis teaching in the areas of District Leadership and Educational Planning.
