MICHAEL D. USDAN is a Senior Fellows at the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, D.C., where he served as President for two decades. His current interests focus upon urban education, intergovernmental educational policy issues and the evolving role of the teacher unions. Recent publications include, “The Teaching Profession at the Crossroads,” in the October 2013 issue of Educational Leadership and, “The Political Future of the Teaching Profession,” in the March 2013 Commentary Section of Education Week. Both articles were co-authored with Arthur E. Wise. Current activities, among other projects, include consulting for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, the George Washington University, and doing executive director searches for national education organizations.
