A number of recent publications come to mind, including for example Mike Daviss powerful critical examination of the realities in which a large portion of the worlds impoverished urban populations live, Planet of Slums (Davis, 2006) and Kathleen Lynch, John Baker, and Maureen Lyonss analytically and empirically cogent treatment of the significance of affective equality in structuring our cultural and economic institutions in a book by the same name (Lynch, Baker, and Lyons, 2009). Another recent book clearly deserves its place on this list, Bethany Moretons insightful analysis of the complex relations among economic transformations, the growth of Christian entrepreneurship, changes in gendered labor, and conservative ideologies.
