The frequent inclusion of the arts in contemporary early childhood classrooms necessitates the exploration of pedagogical practices that best support the implementation of rich, embedded arts programming. In The Story in the Picture: Inquiry and Artmaking With Young Children (2009) Christine Mulcahey presents a framework for transforming early arts classroom practices from those that are either too open-ended or too closed to those that encourage young children to think like artists.
