It provides instead a survey of various methodologies, methods, and philosophical approaches to qualitative research and develops an argument for expanding our notions of what counts as research. Willis expands these notions not only beyond the usual quantitative/qualitative divide, but also beyond a merely anthropological or sociological approach to qualitative research (although some in these fields have also evolved beyond traditional qualitative methodologies) common in qualitative research texts in education. In this sense the book is an important contribution to the plethora of texts on qualitative research. While the issues raised in this text have been extensively debated in other venues, this text makes these debates relatively accessible to readers who are either new to qualitative research or who have been trained in...
