The calls for action ring loud and clear on the pages of this recently released book. The editors have compiled and skillfully arranged a collection of seventeen scholarly essays that take a pragmatic approach in addressing various complex and inter-related issues that pose serious challenges for Higher Education and its constituencies in the present and for the future. The critical issues discussed in this book center around the fact that there are large numbers of faculty who are retiring at the very same time that student enrollments are expanding. This becomes increasingly problematic as more and more students enroll and the demand for faculty increases. The difficulty in meeting the demand for new faculty is compounded by budget constraints that have resulted in the hiring of part-time and non-tenure faculty instead of tenure track faculty.
