In a practical, hands-on series of essays, Rick Van Noy explores the joys and challenges of helping his own two children connect with the natural world. A Natural Sense of Wonder: Connecting Kids with Nature Through the Seasons borrows inspiration from Rachel Carson’s The Sense of Wonder (1998) as the author shares stories of his various outdoor family adventures. It is a timely tool for educators, parents, grandparents or anyone seeking ideas or encouragement as they attempt to get kids out the door, that most difficult first step. Van Noy is honest about using his children’s favorite treats to lure his son and daughter away from society’s collective addiction to television, computer and video games, and onto the trail or into the canoe or tent.
