Maher, a Professor of Education at Wheaton College, and Mary Kay Thompson Tetreault, Provost Emerita at Portland State University, have succeeded in this enormous undertaking by challenging themselves and their readers to think rigorously and inclusively about the terms at the heart of this text (privilege and diversity) and by narrowing their analysis to an assessment of three universities.
The authors insist on an understanding of privilege and diversity which avoids the usual pitfall of contrasting diversity with excellence.
