In Teacher Research & Urban Literacy Education by Sandra Hollingsworth we follow the conversations of a group of beginning urban teachers who met monthly over dinner to discuss their classrooms. Hollingsworth, who is a teacher educator, initially brought them together hoping she could observe, and facilitate, the process they went through as they learned to teach—what they needed to know that they had not been taught, and what use they made of what they had learned in their teacher training programs. The conversations they had together, however, became something quite different from what Hollingsworth had expected, as she explains. The book is in some sense co-authored by the entire group—the teachers are there as collaborators in the interpretations Hollingsworth presents, and in their own voices in the pieces of text and talk she includes from them.
