"G" is for Growing provides a broad overview of the role of evaluation research in the development of an educational television program and its evolution over time. The collection of chapters covers the development of Sesame Street, its impact, and its extension beyond the initial television program. The volume covers a topic in each of its three main sections: I. Integrating Research and Educational Content into Production; II. Impact of Sesame Street; III. Extending Sesame Street: Other Settings, Other Media. In addition, the editors have authored an introduction to the volume and a concluding chapter. With the exception of the chapters in the second section, most authors, including the editors, have current or former affiliations with the research division at Children's Television Workshop, the developer and producer of Sesame Street. The first and third sections focus quite specifically on the ways in which a television program was developed, evolved, and was extended beyond its initial medium and target audience.
