Center for the Study of Teaching and Policy

CTP is a consortium of five universities which has been created to investigate the relation between excellent teaching and policymaking at national, state, and local levels. The five universities are:

University of Washington (lead institution)

Stanford University

Teachers College/Columbia University

University of Michigan

University of Pennsylvania

The mission of CTP is to investigate the relation between excellent teaching and policymaking. Combining macro perspectives on the system as a whole and micro perspectives on the classroom and school, we will focus our research on teacher policy environments at all levels of the system—national, state, and local—and the implications of these environments for teachers' work and careers.

CTP was founded in 1997 and is funded for five years by the National Institute for Educational Governance, Finance, Policymaking, and Management of the Office of Educational Research and Improvement(OERI) in the U.S. Department of Education.
