Pushing Back Against Teacher Attrition

The mentorship component of teacher education and training, indeed, would impact teacher attrition. The first few years' experience in teaching (induction) are crucial. Additional factors need consideration as well, including leadership support and philosophy, school model and setting, school culture, etc. My mentor, who is the chair of early childhood education at City College, and I had a brief discussion about this topic. One of the points surfaced in our discussion was the notion of teacher attitudes and dispositions. Our discussion raised more questions about the characteristics teachers need to withstand the rigors and demands of the profession.
