Academic arrogance and ignorance

Posted By: Norman Norris on April 24, 2003

I read with interest the "bozo" article by Dr. Baines. As a twenty year veteran of the public schools and relatively new professor, I am amazed at the combination of arrogance and ignorance that I see in our business.

There is a perception among all the service professions that the real scholars do the "scholarly stuff" and the less capable do the teaching. We find this mindset not only in colleges of education, but in medicine, psychology, social work and even those called to the ministry.

Real scholars should hold their head high and recognize academic arrogance and ignorance when we see it.
