I agree whole-heartedly that teaching the kids to work together will benefit all. Life in general is much easier with support and teaching students how to work in groups, support another, and utilize each other for information can be valuable tools. There are programs that promote this type of co-existence including Upward Bound and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination.) Check out the information on AVID methodologies and brain-based learning. AVID does the brain-based learning at its best.
