The combination of a librarian and an architect in the preparation of this report on the secondary school library has paid off in a work of considerable value to school ad­ministrators, teachers, and librarians. This is a compact study, illustrated with up-to-date photographs, drawings, and architec­tural designs. The publication, a report from the Educational Facilities Laboratories, is directed at the analysis of the potential of a well-planned secondary school library in a framework of effective instruction. The authors have laid a sound basis for their contentions in regard to physical fa­cilities by analyzing in some detail the back­ground, functions, and essentials of high-level library service. The changing pressures on schools, the relevance of advances in col­lege library buildings, a new concept of the library as a teaching laboratory, the inter­relationships of the various disciplines, and the requirements for the library-teaching staff and for the readers are all intelligently discussed.
