teacher attitiudes towards at-risk
|Posted By: Arlene Currie on October 27, 2003|
I am not sure where 'home' is for you, but I am presently completing my Masters in Teaching At-risk Students in Kelowna, BC, Canada. I have worked in both the high school and elementary schools and I find that the attitude towards AS are varied. I wish all teacher were required to take some courses about identifying AS and teaching resiliency. I am a much better teacher now that I have some knowledge. I try to share as much as I can, but I am afraid that most teachers just don't know what to do to help AS and so they do nothing, or try to ignore the situation.
Quite sad really.
maybe if we teach our students to help and support each other, we will all be better served. Peer tutoring can be a powerful tool.
