Tools to help build learning communities

Posted By: Daniel Romano III on May 28, 2003

A series of dialogue and discussions tools has been co-developed by educational stakeholders and Root Edventures in Ohio. This series of tools was specifically designed to help create learning communities around education. Based on the success of this initial series community engagement/involvement tools the Battelle for Kids Foundation recently co-developed (with Edventures) a tool called "LifeSpans: Preparing Our Children for the Journey of a Lifetime" which addresses one of the first steps in moving towards a learning organization - establishing the burning platform or urgency to change. The methodology/technology utilized includes small group discussion, dialogue, exercises and data.

Recently, the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Ohio utilized this tool for the 2002/03 community forums. The department can be contacted for data and information on it's effectiveness in involving and engaging educational stakeholders.
