Whining to the Choir

The aspiration is "teaching kids to read"; not "reform"--whatever that is. Many in the ed research community have convinced themselves that "reform"--whatever that is, is a slow, complicated process. This self-fulfilling prophecy is hardly in the professional interest, let alone the public interest.

The TV series dealt with an operational effort to to increase the reliability of reading instruction in the United Kingdom. Run the thought experiment again. Which is more in the PUBLIC interest: illuminating that initiative or illuminating the allegation that "reform"--whatever that is, is a slow, complicated process?
