"Assessment as Inquiry" as Word-Play

The title and the abstract frame a matter worthy of resolution. But the substance of the article is word-play that views the problem from various perspectives with no empirical grounding at any point. The article ends on a note that “crystallizes nothing,” and calls for a “dialog” on the matter that had been around for 10 years when the article was published, two more years since publication. Meanwhile, the clock has been ticking, and real time instructional assessment has regularly become more ridiculous. (Ref: Newspapers almost daily.)

Think of "fiddling while Rome burns" or “when hell freezes over” to get a sense of when the invited dialog is likely to amount to anything.
