weekly journals

Posted By: Elizabeth Darracott on May 11, 2004

I saw from your email that you use weekly journals as an assessment tool for student teachers and I would be grateful if you could comment on whether you require your students to add supporting references to their journal entries. I work at Dubai Women's College in the UAE on the B.Ed in Teaching English to Young Learners and my students are required to quote from readings in their journals. My own feeling is that this is not appropriate as I think more can be gleaned about their understandings from a direct, personal response. I would appreciate any feedback, however brief.

Thanks,
