The Course in English in the Horace Mann School, Teachers College: List of Books for Teachers

Lists of books for teachers and, indeed, all classes of readers, are frequently offered. It is safe to say that no such lists are wholly good or entirely worthless. But every one must learn to choose his own; until he can do so, he is only in the beginnings of things. It is not, therefore, in any "missionary spirit" that a list is offered, but as a side-light upon the course outlined in this publication, that the writer records here some of the critical and interpretative books as types of those most valuable to him and his colleagues: Aristotle's Poetics.
