The Technological Threat to Education

I am going to talk about computers and the promised revolution in education attendant on the arrival of a promised computer culture. I want to expose the utopian fantasies inherent in all talk of computers revolutionizing education, and right at the start, so you will know where I stand, I am firmly opposed to the introduction of the computer as a technological device oriented toward changing the very tradition of education.

    ROBERT J. SARDELLO is director of studies at the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture. He has occupied the positions of dean of the graduate schools, director of the Institute of Philosophic Studies, and chairman of the psychology department at the University of Dallas. Dr. Sardello is the author of numerous articles on the phenomena of psychological experience and contemporary culture. He is a psycho-therapist in private practice, and has been a guest professor at Sonoma State University, Seattle University, the University of New Mexico, and the Summer Institute in Archetypal Psychology at Notre Dame University.
