Survey Study of Teacher Training in Texas, and a Suggested Program

It can scarcely be said that the professional education of teachers is generally regarded as a special and proper phase of higher education in America. Most laymen and many school administrators and teachers look upon a general liberal arts training as a sufficient preparation for entrance into the teaching profession. This study assumes, on the contrary, that progress in public education will require specialized professional preparation of practitioners as has progress in other professions.
