by W. P. Alexander 1949

It is the purpose of this series of lectures, first, to outline the nature of the educational provision in England and Wales in the twenty years preceding 1939; second, to indicate the provisions of the Education Act, 1944, and to examine the educational philosophy underlying that major Statute; third, to report progress in carrying the 1944 Act into effect during the period up to 1949; and finally to examine certain major problems which are being thrown into relief in English Education and to discuss solutions which are being explored.
