This book consists of a series of articles by a group of eight Quaker educators on various aspects of the problem of developing international understanding. Ralph Preston, who is Professor of Education at the University of Pennsylvania and well known for his writing on the social studies in the elementary schools, is both editor and contributor. In a short introduction and the first chapter, he deals with some of the basic issues involved in teaching world understanding. He discusses such questions as whether attitudes can be changed, whether deliberate education is a form of propaganda, and whether educating for world understanding is in conflict with educating for patriotism. Preston is author of the final chapter also, which, while it is supposed to deal with world understanding in the curriculum, is actually a summary of the entire book.
