Controversy in Teacher Education: The Central Issue

In this article the author does three things: first, he comments on the difficulty he is having thinking clearly about teacher education when much of what he stands for is under attack; second, develops what seems to be the neglected central issue in the current discussions about teacher education; and finally, suggests briefly what he thinks we teacher educators ought to be stressing.
