Without vigorous and wise leadership, education in modern society is liable to failure. Nowhere is the responsibility for leadership clearer or more urgent than in the superintendency, the executive offices of our school systems. The author evaluates the present role of the superintendent and suggests a number of ways by which his central job may be profitably professionalized.
