Some sociological research of the 'sixties seems to move in the direction of international relations and, specifically, the problems of war and peace. In this little but important book, Dentler and Cutright address themselves to the problem of the possible consequences of thermonuclear war and propose an action program by which they hope such a war may be prevented. They begin with three highly condensed, well documented (yet eminently readable) chapters devoted to a systematic discussion of the possible consequences of a thermonuclear war, the possibilities of survival, and the nature of the problems facing any possible survivors. But this is not speculation, and if it reads at times like science fiction, it is because the nature of the material almost by definition deals with the barely credible.
