Secondary Library Services: A Search for Essentials

by Mary V. Gaver & Milbrey L. Jones 1966

Mary V. Gaver and her colleague, Milbrey L. Jones, take an innovative and entirely contemporary approach to secondary school libraries in this article. They are primarily concerned with the programs libraries may carry on in the interests of teachers and learners, in the multiple services they may perform. They present some evidence on the services presently offered, the opinions of a group of experts on which seem to be most important; and, perhaps most helpfully, they append a checklist which may be suggestive not only to librarians but to secondary school teachers in many fields. Mary Gaver is president of the American Library Association this year; and the fresh approach made evident by this article bids fair to rejuvenate the library scene.
