To critical readers this book may appear to be one-sided, subjective, unfair and unsound. Some will react by asking how one year's teaching experience by one individual becomes the basis for generalizations about one school and beyond that of the entire educational system of a great city. Some will attack the author personally for violating some of the principles of the profession of teaching by his over-personal identification with some of his pupils and his presumptuous judgments on his colleagues on the faculty. Still others, expressing a more objective view, will say in every school there are always one or more teachers who identify more with the students than with the administration. This is particularly true of young teachers. Eventually they outgrow this earlier immaturity and their own personal problems with authority.
