    PATRICIA K. KUBOW is Professor in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Curriculum and Instruction at Indiana University-Bloomington. She is also Director of the Center for International Education, Development and Research (CIEDR) in the IU School of Education. Her research focuses on the comparative study of constructions of democracy and citizenship education in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. Kubow’s international efforts in democratic education have been recognized by The President of the U.S./The White House and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Her scholarship has received awards from the American Educational Research Association and the Association of Teacher Educators.

    JACOB BUTLER is Project Coordinator for the Center for International Education, Development, and Research (CIEDR) in the Indiana University School of Education. Possessing degrees in Secondary Education and African Studies, he has taught at schools in three different African contexts. Butler’s published research includes an examination of political accountability in Kenya following the contested 2007 elections.

    A'AME JOSLIN is a PhD Candidate at the School of Education, Indiana University-Bloomington studying Comparative and International Education. Her research addresses informal education through work, access to basic education, and women's education with a regional focus in Mali. Currently, Joslin is exploring the education rural girls receive while working as domestic laborers in urban Mali.
