Psychological Foundations of General Education

The present chapter is based on much of the same literature and many of the same practices cited by Taylor and Havighurst, but the purpose is to try to identify psychological assumptions and convictions—especially beliefs about the nature of learning. Every program of general education is designed to facilitate student learning. The program of studies, or whatever other activities constitute the curriculum, exist in order to bring about changes in the behavior—verbal and otherwise—of the students.
