SCHMIDT is an associate professor at the Westminster Choir College of Rider University, where he teaches courses in philosophy and sociology of music and education, and curriculum and cultural theory, including courses with a focus on hip-hop and music education in urban schools. His most recent publications can be found in the Journal of Curriculum Theorizing; Theory Into Practice; Arts Education Policy Review; Philosophy of Music Education Review; Action, Theory and Criticism in Music Education; the Finish Journal of Music Education, and the Journal of ABEM (the Brazilian National Association for Music Educators).

    CATHY BENEDICT is currently the area coordinator of music education at Florida International University. Her scholarly interests lie in facilitating music education environments in which students take on the perspective of a justice-oriented citizen. To this end, her research agenda focuses on the processes of education and the ways in which teachers and students interrogate taken for granted, normative practices. She has published in such journals as Philosophy of Music Education Review, Music Education Research, Research Studies in Music Education, the Brazilian journal ABEM, and Theory Into Practice.
