A Dialogical Inquiry Into Practice Frameworks Within Jabiru Community College: Re-centering Young People and Community Within a Social Constructionist Frame

This chapter explores the practice framework guiding the practice of workers at Jabiru Community College, a community-based school in Brisbane, Australia. The chapter articulates the findings from a dialogical inquiry begun by the three authors with input from workers and youth. Seven dimensions of the framework being used by workers are described.

    PETER WESTOBY, PhD, is a Senior Lecturer in Community Development at The University of Queensland, Australia, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Development Support, University of Free State, South Africa. He is also a Director of the Community Praxis Co-operative. With over 25 years of experience in youth, community, and organizational development in various settings, such as Australia, South Africa, Vanuatu, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea, Dr. Westoby has research interests including the interface between dialogue theory, community development, community-based education, and theory and practice. A recent publication co-authored with Gerard Dowling is Theory and Practice of Dialogical Community Development: International Perspectives, published by Routledge in 2013.
