East Carolina University E-mail Author ANGELO COLLINS is the Elizabeth and Thomas Taft Endowed Professor in Science Education and the Director of the Center for STEM Education at East Carolina University. She began her career in education as a classroom teacher. Her academic interests lie at the intersection of teachers and teaching, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines and policy. She has served as the Director of the Teacher Assessment Project at Stanford University and the Committee that produced the 1995 National Science Education Standards. She also was the founding Executive Director of the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation.
