He is the author of Lives in Science: How Institutions Affect Academic Careers (Chicago, 2009) and editor of The American Academic Profession: Transformation in Contemporary Higher Education (Johns Hopkins, 2011). His current research examines the longitudinal study of academic careers and the operation of reward systems in organizations.
