    ELIZABETH DE FREITAS is an Associate Professor at Adelphi University. Her research interests include mathematics education and cultural studies. She has published articles in Educational Studies in Mathematics; Qualitative Inquiry; Race, Ethnicity and Education; Mathematics Teacher Education; The International Journal of Education and the Arts; Teaching Education; Language and Literacy; Gender and Education; The Journal of the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies; and The Canadian Journal of Education. She is also co-editor of the book Opening the research text: Critical insights and in(ter)ventions into mathematics education published by Springer Verlag in 2008. Recent publications include two 2011 articles, one in ESM and the other in RRME, as well as the 2010 online Making mathematics public: Aesthetics as the distribution of the sensible available at http://ccfi.educ.ubc.ca/publication/insights/v13n01/articles/defreitas/abstract.html.
