I've been waiting for a book like this to come along for some time. I am an academic librarian in a school of education. I also served as a Trustee of a public library for eighteen years. During that period I was amazed at the lack of collaboration between the public library and the schools in our town. I even attempted to establish opportunities for the schools, particularly the school libraries, and the public library to work together, share resources, and adopt compatible technologies—I was unsuccessful. I viewed the disconnect between schools and libraries as being the result of a clash of cultures, turf issues, and limitations attributed to the impenetrable bureaucracy of schools. Sondra Cuban and Larry Cuban have carefully analyzed this phenomenon and written a book that optimistically suggests that technological developments may provide the key to overcome many of the barriers that have kept schools and libraries on...
