TWO recent attacks have appeared on the Payne Fund Studies, most of which were completed more than five years ago. The first is a ponderous, indigestible volume of some 676 pages by Mortimer Adler of the University of Chicago. The second is this English translation by Raymond Moley. Both books were written "at the suggestion of representatives of the motion picture industry." The wonder is not that these attacks have appeared, but rather that they have appeared so late.
